Like a tippling honing bird, I instinctively seek out quality drinks the minute I set foot somewhere new. It’s probably pretty easy to visit Hawaii and leave thinking bars only stock beer and umbrella-clad tiki drinks, but, after some research, I found thirtyninehotel. From a spot-on spin on a Negroni with the addition of Domaine Canton to introducing me to Cruzan’s Blackstrap rum, the bartenders do their part to go beyond the mai tai.
I snapped a pic of a couple of recent successes: that’s a Rum Old-Fashioned to the left and on the right is a Gin, Gin, and Gin, made with Miller’s Gin, ginger syrup, and ginger beer. Both are easy enough to replicate at home but I’ll just continue to leave the mixing to thirtyninehotel as long as I’m still on the island.
