2009′s been an auspicious eating year for me as I’ve been fortunate enough to come across some of the best Japanese meals I’ve had ever. From awesome robata mochi at Inakaya to exceptional omakase at Sasabune, there have been some serious contenders. But, the most memorable bites were way closer to home, like just across the Golden Gate Bridge at Sushi Ran. Their omakase was top but it was the quail egg chawanmushi topped with caviar and crab that was most memorable. Sorry for the less-than-stellar pic — low light and my cell phone do not a nice photo make.
