Up, Up, and Away

Aida Mollenkamp Moet & Chandon 2012 Academy Awards Hot Air Balloon by Stephane Cardinale

Yes, that is me flying around in a cork-shaped hot air balloon with a full magnum of Moët & Chandon. How did this come to be, you ask?

In case you haven’t heard or you live under a rock, it’s Oscars week here in Hollywood. Before I moved to Los Angeles, I had no clue what that truly meant. I didn’t realize, for example, that roads would be blocked off days ahead of the event, that international press would be filming from each and every scenic outlook across the city, and that there would be a buzz in the air as everyone occupied themselves with the prep.

This year I’ve been at the front lines of it all as I’ve worked with Moët & Chandon to help celebrate the season. It’s serious fun because I get to encourage people to celebrate the big night with some bubbly and it’s made me a lot of friends.

To give you perspective, over 1,000 bottles (more than 6,000 glasses) of Moët & Chandon will be poured during the course of the evening, and, to make a grand entrance fitting for Hollywood, Moët decided to deliver the champagne via hot air balloon. That meant shutting down a section of the Hollywood Hills and inflating this larger-than-life cork-shaped balloon. So, I got to get glammed up and ride about in the balloon yesterday to help spread some award season cheer.

To top it off, tomorrow morning when I’ll be on Access Hollywood Live with some ideas for throwing an French-themed viewing party in honor of Midnight in Paris and The Artist – a theme also quite fitting for the French champagne house, oui? I’ll also be sharing some of the cocktail party recipes you’ve seen here this week, so be sure to tune in!
